Email > Add Email Users

Adding a new user to your hosting account adds a new POP3 (email account) and a new web directory to your domain.

Note: Only accounts from 'Economy Trade' and above can add new users.

The new web directory will be created in the 'users' folder on your domain... So if you add a new user called 'david123', their personal web directory will be found at www.yourdomain.ext/users/david123/ or a shorter version would be www.yourdomain.ext/~david123/ (Your web server automatically re-maps the tilde character ~ to /user/)

If you don't want the user to have a personal web directory then after setting up the new user, log in by FTP and delete the folder called 'web' that can be found in the new 'users' folder.

The new user that you have added will be able to log into their own unique email box to collect their mail using their own username/password combination.
Note: Email for this new user is stored separately from your main email account, so it will need downloading separately.

This is a dummy form

Username:
Type in the username that you wish to use for the new user.. Usernames MUST be all in lower case with no spaces.
Note: Your account is on a shared server so the username may already be in use on the server, and cannot be used again - If this occurs you may have to set the username as 'john2' instead of 'john for instance.

Password:
Enter the users password into this box.
Try to make the password secure by using UpPerAndLOwerCase
Characters are also acceptable such as M%yPa$$word

If you make the user SiteAdmin then your entire website is at risk from hackers if your password is insecure!

Disk Quota:
Set this to the amount of combined web & email storage space for the new user.
Too little space allocated may cause email to 'bounce' especially if the user receives mail with a graphic content or attachments. We recommend 5Mb minimum.

Shell Accounts:
Shell accounts are for Telnet use.
For server security we disable Telnet by default because it's an easily exploited 'doorway' into the web server by hackers.
We prefer that if you want to use Telnet on your account, then use Secure Telnet SSH which is always available. (requires a secure Telnet SSH client application)

SiteAdmin: (superusers)
Add these sparingly!
And avoid making too many users SiteAdmin (superusers)

A superuser can access all areas of your web hosting account without exception, so offer an opportunity for modifying or deleting any file that exists there.

FrontPage:
Will show ENABLED if FrontPage extensions are available or DISABLED if not.
FrontPage extensions must be enabled on the main account to be available to users.

APop:
Not used.

Aliases:
Enter the email aliases that you want this user to use with this account on separate lines. i.e. Add a carriage return after each one.
An alias works as an email address so email sent to the alias, myalias1@yourdomain myalias2@yourdomain & myalias3@yourdomain would be stored in this username's email POP3 email box.
You can only have 1 instance of an alias name on your domain so, for instance, you can't create an alias of myalias1 in another users account as well as this new account. Otherwise you would finish up with 2 users with an email address of myalias1@yourdomain which isn't practical (or allowed by the server).

The alias: @www.yourdomain is a wildcard (catchall) and all email not destined for a named user at your domain will be collected in this account.
Your account is set up by default with this wildcard in place but we recommend that you create named aliases instead to avoid having your mailbox filled with 'spam' email.
