Adding & Modifying Users > General

All Accounts above UKT 'Lite' hosting have the function of being able to add new users to an account.

To create OR modify a user click the icon in your hosting control panel (UCP)

  • Creating a new user also...
  • Creates a POP3 email box.
  • Creates user web space

POP3
POP
means 'Post Office Protocol' and simply means 'an email account '

Assuming you add a user with a username of 'john.smith' then the new POP3 email box will collect and store all email for john.smith@yourdomain separately   from any other email account on your domain.

To collect john.smith's email you will either need to set up a new account in your email client, such as Outlook Express, to collect john.smith's mail (using the username/password combination you set him up with), or have the mail 'forwarded' to either your main account or another email address where it can be collected from.
See Outlook Express Settings for how to set up to collect email.

Also see: Reducing Spam for information about spam reduction and email aliases

User Web Space
Adding a new user also creates 'personal web space' where a completely new website (in the username) can be added.

The URL that would be used to view john.smiths website is either:
www.yourdomain/users/john.smith/
Or www.yourdomain/~john.smith/

Our system recognises the tilde character " ~ " as meaning 'user'.
